It feels like that statement can’t be possibly be true right? It might even feel a little triggering.
I mean that’s a pretty bold claim. Changing your life with just a feeling? How?
Let me show you. Think back to how you felt this morning when you opened your eyes. What were your first thoughts? Did you feel tired? Did you think about all the things you had to do that day so you immediately felt overwhelmed?
Or were you grateful? Did you wake up and say thank you. Thank you for this day. Thank you for waking me up. Thank you for my warm house and bed.
The first thing you think about in the morning can set the tone for your entire day.
Yeah, yeah you heard this all before right? If I only knew what was happening in your life right now then I would understand why you you aren’t feeling particularly grateful.
Look everyone has things they could be upset about and everyone has things that they could be grateful for if they really took the time to consider it. If you have breath in your lungs you are doing better than a large number of people who, for various reasons, fight to breath every single day. When you opened your eyes could you see? Think for a second about the number of people out there who open there eyes everyday and are still in total darkness.
See where I ‘m going with this?
Start everyday with the feeling of gratitude and your whole your entire life will change.
I guarantee it. Will it happen the first day you try it? Maybe not.
But I bet your day, or at least the first few moments of your day went just a little bit better then it did the day before. You may have even felt some peace. Joy.
Before you disregard this because you’ve heard it all before, keep reading and really try to visualize what I’m about to say.
Close your eyes and envision starting your day feeling grateful.
Your alarm goes off and you rollover to turn it off. (Grateful for electricity, an alarm, that you can rollover).
Your bed is warm is warm and cozy, you sit up stretch and begin to get out of bed. (grateful for- a bed, heat, covers, that your body can move).
You make your way to the bathroom, brush your teeth, and get dressed for the day. (clean clothes, running water, a toothbrush).
You walk into the kitchen and make breakfast, talk to your partner and kids or pets (if you have them) and get ready to leave the house. (food, family, a job you can go to).
You get my point by now, right?
You have so many things you can find to be grateful for if you slow down and think about it.
And guess what? When you start feeling grateful you start taking better care of yourself and the world around you. You carry a different energy when you start feeling grateful for your life. Your positive energy starts to transfer to those around you. Your loved ones, co-workers, and even strangers feel your energy and that causes them to act differently which in turn ripples out to all the people they interact with.
You see what’s happening right? If you want to change the world, start by being grateful.
It literally starts with you being grateful for even one thing. One thing. I know you can find one thing right now in your life to be grateful for- your reading this after all.
For a moment, because we don’t want to give it anymore then a moment, let’s look at the flipside of feeling grateful.
You wakeup and immediately groan. You are tired and irritated and you’ve only been up for a minute. You notice your body aches as you walk to the bathroom. You hate your clothes and the fact that you have gained some weight. Your husband left his clothes on the bathroom floor yet again and your dog had an accident through the night.
When you get to the kitchen you notice all the dishes in the sink and your kids notice the mood you are in and start getting fidgety. You make a snarky comment to your husband about how you are the only one who ever does anything around here. Your kids begin to fight, the dog barks and everyone leaves the house in a huff.
What kind of energy then do you bring to the person in the car beside you, the person who just handed you coffee and the employee who just made a mistake at your company? And because of that, what kind of energy do they then transfer to all the people they then interact with?
What we feel expands and transfers to everyone else- both good and bad.
Gratitude Matters.
We are responsible for the energy we bring into this world. It’s our responsibility to ourselves and to the world.
What you have been doing so far hasn’t been working if you are still unhappy, so what’ve you got to lose by trying it?
Start right now. Think of 5 things you can be grateful for in this moment.
It doesn’t matter what they are or how little you think it is. Find any 5 things you can be grateful for and either write them down, type them into your notes section or text them to yourself. How you do it doesn’t matter. Just do it.
And then tomorrow, do it again. And the day after that and the day after that.
I know your life will change in unexpected ways even if you don’t believe me. Even if you have tried it before and it didn’t work. Try it now with the intention that it will work. Set your mind up already believing this time it will work.
Commit to 30 days of practicing daily gratitude.
If you want to take it a step further – at the end of each day write down any changes you noticed in how your day went or what being grateful made you realize.
Share in the comments below how it is changing your life. You can come back here each day if you want to and share your transformation.
I’m so excited to see the ripple affect you will have in your life and those around you. Cheering you on!
In love and so much gratitude, thank you for being here in my corner of the internet. Have an amazing day!
